Emotions! Sometimes if feels as if they have a mind of their own. One day they’re up and the next day they’re down. One moment they’re happy and the next moment they’re sad. Some days they’re satisfied and some days they’re not. All this up and down can really interfere with our relationships, our families, our job, and even our faith walk. It just feels that we at times are at the disposal of our feelings and that we serve them instead of them serving us.
There is a problem here and the word of God warns us about this. I’m Jeremiah 17:9 says, “The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?” Bottom line here is that we can’t lean on nor trust what we “feel”. We must recognize that the demonstration of emotions does not alter the immutability or permanence of God’s will or His promises for our lives. In other words, God does not change and neither should we. We most certainly CAN control our emotions if we are fully submitted to Christ and His character.
This is not to say that we can never “feel” any emotion, by all means, God created us with feelings. However, what I’m referring to is that we must take charge of our reaction to our emotions instead of allowing our emotions take charge of us. You see, the vast majority of us have become enslaved to our own feelings rather than bondservants of Jesus Christ. We should never make decisions based upon what we feel, but on what our Lord is asking of us. God gave us emotions so we could experience life, not destroy it. So take control today of what your emotions say and submit them to what God says about you. Be blessed!
Let’s Pray: Heavenly Father, I charge my emotions over to You today and I ask that You would help me control them so that they don’t end up controlling me. In Jesus name, Amen!
